Lesson 1: Sociology & Sociological Research
Thursday, August 29, 2024 1:08 PM

Introduction:
• Sociology is the scientific study of human social relationships, groups, and societies. The goal of
sociology is to understand the behavior of groups of people and social institutions as well as
how they interact. Since this encompasses much of the human experience, sociologists may
study a wide variety of topics, from family relations to the formation of government institutions.
• The goal of sociology is to understand the behavior of groups of people and social institutions as
well as how they interact. We all belong to many groups; you’re a member of your sociology
class, and you're a member of your family; you may belong to a political party, sports team, or
the crowd watching a sporting event; you’re a citizen of your country, and you're part of a
generation. You may have a somewhat different role in each group and feel differently in each.
