What is Functionally Equivalent Behavior? - ANSWER • A behavior that is serving the
same outcome but a more acceptable behavior can replace a less desirable acceptable
behavior once the function of the behavior has been determined.
• More appropriate way of getting the same outcome
• Should be as easily or more easily performed than the problem behavior
• Should be taught and reinforced
Token Economy: a system in which tokens are earned for emitting a target behavior and
the tokens are later exchanged for a back-up reinforcer.
A token board: Provides positive reinforcement through the giving of tokens for
completed tasks or desired behaviors. When all tokens are earned, a backup reinforcer
is given.
What is Time Away/Time Out? - ANSWER • Removing the opportunity to receive positive
reinforcement, or losing access to positive reinforcers for a pre-specified duration of
time, contingent on the occurrence of an undesirable behavior.
