Fabrication 10/10
purpose of master cast fabrication
CREATE A CAST THAT PRESERVES THE ANATOMY CAPTURED BY
FINAL
IMPRESSION
INCLUDING PERIPHERY DETAIL AND THICKNESS
CAST HAS A FEATURE CALLED A "LAND AREA" THAT IS A 4-6MM WIDE
FLAT RIM AROUND THE ANATOMY OF THE CAST
- The land area is critical during processing of denture
PRODUCES A CAST THAT IS STRONG WITH DENSE STONE THAT CAN
WITHSTAND THE PRESSURES OF DENTURE PROCESSING AND IS NOT
EASILY DAMAGED DURING DENTURE FABRICATION
IDEALLY STONE MIXED UNDER VACUUM
methods of master cast fabrication
bead and box with wax
pumice and plaster (We used)
, bead and box method
apply layer of sticky wax around periphery of impression 3 mm below edge of
impression
beading
apply 2 lengths of rope wax around the periphery adhering the wax to the
previously placed sticky wax
boxing
surround the impression with a sheet of red boxing wax to form a container for
the stone. seal the waxes to each other with a hot instrument to prevent
leakage
mandibular impression bead technique
place sticky wax around periphery 3 mm below border of impression
beading of mandible
surround impression with 2 thickness (horizontal) of rope wax
to close the lingual space apply a layer of base plate wax to the area and seal
to impression
make sure the entire impression is surrounded by wax to create land area
