ASSESSMENT CRITERIA SHEET (PRACTICAL)

TAQs associated with Planning a Practical Investigation (Chemistry)
Your Tutor Assessed Questions (TAQs) for this unit are shown below.

NOTE: This assessment is based on you devising a 1000-1500
word research proposal, (excluding the references and
bibliography and any other sections stipulated). Please make
sure that you visit the links provided throughout this unit
relating to aspects of research methods to help you complete
this work.

Please note that you are only planning a practical investigation and
you are not carrying it out. However, the plan you submit must be
something that you could actually do safely if you were going to carry
it out. It cannot be something that would not be possible to do in a
college laboratory environment (using standard laboratory equipment)
or if it might compromise your safety.

NOTE:

Read through all the instructions below (including the
information in each section of the student answer sheet) before
you begin to write anything.

We have produced a podcast to help you understand the
questions which can be accessed below:

this document)

TAQ.1
Assessment criterion covered: all

For this assessment you are going to develop and submit a research
proposal on a topic chosen from the ones suggested below. You are
advised to choose one that both interests you and that you
understand the theory behind. The information that follows provides a
step-by-step guide on how to complete your research proposal.

Produce an Investigation Proposal

1. Firstly, you will need to have an idea of the chemistry
experiment you want to plan. Remember this should be
something that you could (with the correct equipment) be able
to actually carry out safely in a laboratory.
