away from other vessels by stopping, slowing down, or changing course.

Stand on vessel - Answer-that must maintain its course and speed unless it becomes
apparent that the give-way vessel is not taking appropriate action.

What should happen if two vessels head towards eachother? - Answer-both should turn
to starboard (right)

What should happen if two vessels cross paths? - Answer-*The vessel coming from
your right is the Stand On vessel, and you are the Give Way vessel.
*The vessel coming from your left is the Give Way vessel, and you are the Stand On
vessel.

What should happen if one vessel is behind another and is overtaking? - Answer-The
vessel in the back (overtaking) is the Give Way vessel, and the vessel in front (being
overtaking) is the Stand On vessel.

What is the difference if one of the vessels encountering is a sail boat? - Answer-The
sail boat is almost always the stand on vessel, unless when it is overtaking another boat
from behind.

Windward - Answer-The direction from which the wind is blowing.

Leeward - Answer-The direction toward which the wind is blowing.

Windward vessel - Answer-refers to the vessel that is upwind of the other

Leeward vessel - Answer-refers to the vessel that is downward of the other.

What should happen if the wind is on different sides of each sail boat, and they
approach head on? - Answer-The sailboat that has the wind on their left is the Give Way
vessel, and the sail boat with the wind on their right is the stand on vessel.
