M4 - SWOT analysis and how it influences decision making.
A SWOT analysis is a useful tool for brainstorming and strategic planning. A SWOT analysis
will help you identify areas of your business that are performing well. These areas are your
critical success factors and they give your business its competitive advantage. Identifying
these strengths can help you make sure you maintain them, so you don't lose your
competitive advantage (Queensland Government, n.d.).
SWOT
S (strengths) Good student attendance (this shows that students are staying on
their course and not leaving. Also they are likely to pass with good
grades as they are attending their lectures)
High enrolment rates for students in majority of courses (this shows
students are enrolling which is good as more students means more
business for the college)
New management training scheme for graduates has been
launched (this will increase colleges reputation as it shows that the
college is very concerned about students and want to enhance their
skills)
A new centre for students with autism (this shows the college is
trying to reach out to a wider range of audience which is good as
they will get all different types of students)
Great employers (college got awarded gold)
W Old building (old buildings which don't look nice won't be much
(weaknesses) appealing to potential students especially because other college
buildings are colourful).
Enrolment rates for apprenticeships 2017-2018 (there needs to be
an improvement otherwise the college will be lacking and falling
behind with competitors)
Less teachers for business courses (2018-2019) (students will fail
because having agency teachers all the time will distract their
learning)
Marketing strategies (college website is very old and they still
mainly use old marketing techniques like advertising on buses)
