 Activity 1

Learners may prefer one or more of several learning styles, and on this basis, we place them in the
following categories: auditory learners, visual learners and tactile learners.

1.1. Explain the following learning styles using your own understanding after reading what
literature says about them and give one example on how you are going to teach learners with
these different learning styles:

A) Tactile learners

Tactile learners, also known as kinesthetic learners, prefer to learn through hands-on activities and
physical engagement. They thrive when they can touch, manipulate, and actively participate in
learning experiences. For example, in teaching environmental science, an educator could take tactile
learners on a nature walk where they can collect samples, observe wildlife, and engage in planting
activities. This hands-on approach helps them to connect theory with practical experience, enhancing
their understanding and retention of the material.

B) Auditory learners

Auditory learners learn best through listening. They benefit from lectures, discussions, and audio
materials. These learners can interpret underlying meanings in speech through listening to tone, pitch,
and pace. For example, in teaching history, a teacher might use storytelling, audio recordings, or oral
presentations to convey historical events. Group discussions and verbal explanations of complex
ideas also cater well to auditory learners, helping them to absorb and retain information effectively.

C) Visual learners

Visual learners prefer learning through seeing. They understand and remember information better
when it is presented in a visual format, such as charts, diagrams, videos, and written notes. In a
mathematics class, for instance, a teacher can use diagrams, visual aids, and color-coded notes to
explain concepts. Visual learners benefit from seeing information organized in a visually accessible
manner, which aids in comprehension and recall.
