What is silence in terms of an example of worship?
Some Christians, such as the quakers, follow no set pattern of worship or services. Instead, followers
sit in silence for significant periods of time. It is not understood to be private worship, as they are
collectively sharing worship together. Some may feel prompted to speak, read aloud, or share
personal experiences

B: Explain 2 ways Christians can worship
Liturgical worship, this is where Christians have a set pattern of worship such as a Sunday service
where they may use the Common Book of prayer. Non-liturgical worship, this is less formal and
structured worship that may include clapping, singing or dancing.

C: Explain 2 ways why Christians believe that worship is important
Christians believe that worship is important because it shows respect, devotion and thanks to God as
well as praising him for his character such as his kindness and his power. This will result in Christians
being treated better by God and avoiding “ everlasting destruction”


Christians believe that worship is important because they can ask for forgiveness of sins and it helps
them release areas of their life where they are not living a godly life.

A sacrament is an important Christian ceremony

Sacraments have 2 important aspects

Physical side – this can be felt, touched, seen, or tasted as for example the bread and wine in Eucharist.

Spiritual side – each sacrament brings a spiritual blessing to the person involved.

Baptism which is the ceremony in which a person becomes formally part of the church

Confirmation which is when a person freely chooses to conclude the process of baptism

Marriage which is a sacrament that reflects God’s everlasting love



C: 2 reasons why sacraments are important for Christians
One reason why sacraments are important for Christians as Christians believe that they are signs of God’s love.
They believe that it is a special holy action that shows a religious truth.

Another reason why sacraments are important for Christians is that they are effective signs which means that
they bring about the thing that they symbolize. For instance, baptism is not just a sign of the forgiveness of
sins, it actually brings about the forgiveness of sins.

C: 2 reasons why Baptism is important for Christians

Baptism is important because it is the formal way in which a person becomes a member of the
church.

Baptism is important because in the dedication service, the parents and church community promise
to bring up the child in Christian values.

Eucharist
The eucharist is accepted by most Christians as a re – enactment of the final meal that Jesus shared
with his disciples. At that meal, he spoke of bread and wine as being his blood and wine.



The Eucharist is called Mass in the Catholic Church, Holy Communion in the Anglican Church and the
Lord’s Supper by the Methodists. It is not celebrated by the Salvation army.
