Marriage and the family

A:
Marriage is important because :

- God intended from creation men and woman should marry
- It provides a secure environment for bringing up children
- Their relationship should be respected by others

B: Marriage is important because:
God intended from creation men and woman should marry. This is important for Christians because God is all
knowing as well as all loving which means whatever he says must be for the best for everyone

It provides a secure environment for bringing up children. This is important because family life is believed to be
a natural goal for Christians and that children are a gift from God and should be cared for properly

C: Marriage is important because:

God intended from creation men and woman should marry. This is important for Christians because God is all
knowing as well as all loving which means whatever he says must be for the best for everyone

It provides a secure environment for bringing up children. This is important because family life is believed to be
a natural goal for Christians and that children are a gift from God and should be cared for properly, “ Fathers,
do not exasperate your children;”.

Sanctity of marriage

- Marriage is a holy gift from God in which partners make a commitment to each other to live
together in an exclusive loving relationship until the death of one of them.
- Faithfulness is the promise to have sexual relations only with the marriage partner

Non religious beliefs
- Marriage can be a way of two people showing publicly their loving commitment to one another
however they don’t believe in any religious significance.
- Many atheists and Humanists value faithfulness within their marriage but there is no rule about this.

Cohabitation

Cohabitation is when 2 couples live together in a sexual relationship without marriage. Most of Christianity
supports no cohabitation

Positives

- It enables couples to get to know each other properly before making the commitment of marriage
- If the relationship fails , separation can occur without legal consequences of divorce
- Marriage lacks importance as there is very little difference if couple is married or cohabitating

Negatives

- It can encourage a casual attitude towards relationships
- It’s too easy to break up and so couples are discouraged to talk things through when times are tough
- The BIBLE supports lifelong marriage

, Sexual relationships:
A:

Sex outside marriage is:

- It is considered to be wrong as sex is the highest expression of love between a couple
- The Bible contains teachings about sexual relationships which uphold sanctity of life
- It is allowed if the couple love each other and they are in a long term relationship.

C: Sex outside marriage is _ __ because

- It is considered to be wrong as sex is the highest expression of love between a couple. This is
important it is right to save the gift of a sexual relationship for their future marriage couple.,“The
sexual act must take place exclusively within marriage”
- It is allowed if the couple love each other and they are in a long term relationship. This is important
because it allows Christians to continue to develop their relationship even if they aren’t comfortable
with marriage.

Abstinence : Choosing to restrain oneself from doing something

Adultery : When a married person has a sexual relationship with someone other than their spouse.

Humanists beliefs about sexual relationship
Humanists aim to live good lives without being guided by religious beliefs. A humanist would
therefore value the freedom to have a sexual relationship when they choose to as long as it
doesn’t cause physical or emotional harm to anyone else. If anyone was hurt by unfaithfulness or
by sexual relationships outside or before marriage, then a humanist would consider it to be
wrong but if all parties are happy, then there are no rules to restrict them.

Homosexuality
A:
Catholics believe that homosexuality is wrong.
The bible teaches that sex should be with a men and a woman and not with the same sex
Anglicans believe homosexuality is wrong

C:
Catholic Christians believe that sex should only be between a man and a woman because that is
God's intentions. In the bible it says ' do not have sexual relations with a man as one does with a
woman '.Therefore by being homosexual some Christians believe it is against God's intentions and
therefore you are disrespecting him.

More liberal Christians believe that homosexual sex is acceptable as the physical part of a loving and
committed homosexual relationship

2 Non religious beliefs about homosexuality

Humanists believe that same - sex relationships are fine as long as the relationship does not cause any harm
to those involved. For humanists, personal choice and freedom are important including the freedom to be in a
same sex relationship
