Accreditation - ANS-A voluntary process by which a private non-governmental
organization or agency performs an external review and grants recognition to a program
of study or institution that meets certain pre-determined standards.
Certification - ANS-The process by which governmental and non-governmental
organizations evaluate educational programs, healthcare facilities, and individuals as
having met predetermined standards.
Licensure - ANS-Legal approval for a facility to operate or for a person to practice within
his or her profession. Individual must meet eligibility requirements before granted a
license to practice. Overseen by state licensing board or agency.
Deemed Status - ANS-Refers to facilities that are accredited by The Joint Commission
and AOA and are in compliance with the Medicare Conditions of Participation (COP) for
hospitals.
