Wanted Persons for NCIC | Questions and Verified Solutions 2024 Who can do an entry in the Wanted Person File? - Answer -Only the agency that holds the warrant may make an NCIC 2000 wanted person entry. The only exception is that any criminal justice agency or regional dispatch center may act as holder of the record for another agency that has no telecommunications equipment. When such an entry is made, the agency holding the record may place its own ORI and in the ORI field but only when there is a written agreement between the two agencies that delineates the legal responsibility of each for the record. How/when could you get a hit from this file? - Answer -If a name is ran there's a warrant, you'll get a hit. Could even be a SoundEx hit. Who can cancel/clear a Wanted Person record? - Answer -Cancellation of a record is restricted to the agency that entered the record. A cancellation message is used when the entering agency determines that the record is invalid; for example, the warrant which was the basis for the record has been dismissed. Clearance of a record is restricted to the agency that entered the record. A clear message is transmitted: 1. When the agency apprehending the wanted person is the agency that entered the record. Or 2. When the agency that entered the record is officially advised that the wanted person is in custody of another agency unless the individual is being detained. The use of a clear transaction results in the immediate removal of the subject record and all associated identifiers. What are additional guidelines for entry? - Answer -A. A caution indicator should be added to the record when it is known that an individual is: 1. Armed and Dangerous 2. Has suicidal tendencies 3. Has previously escaped custody 4. Is a drug addict
