Exponents and Radicals
Rules Example
1. When dividing two terms with
the same base, subtract the
Exponents.
2. When raising a power to
another power, multiply the
exponents.
, When raising a product to a
power, apply the power to all
factors in the product.
Any nonzero term raised to
the zero power equals 1. Note that 00=
undefined
A base raised to a negative
exponent can be rewritten as
the Reciprocal raised to the
positive of the original
exponent.
A negative number raised to
an even exponent will produce
a positive result; a negative
number raised to an odd
exponent will produce a
negative result.
