unit 2 assignment 1 (D1)
The advantages and disadvantages of procedures and communication
Advantages
In a laboratory, there are firm procedures that have to be in place so that jobs are run
properly. These kind of procedures are expected to be sorted with step by step structures of
activities and procedures for employees and staff. Everyone has to go with the same
sequence so that they can complete a duty and the procedures have to be the same
throughout. These are then input as customs for employers and staff. Also, this is an
advantage as the tasks that are identified are done quickly and within the time limit.
There also needs to be the right type of communication distributed to each staff and workers
as if orders are not clear on the sort of procedure a person must follow, routines that are
carried out may not be completed in the approved manner. This displays that communication
is very important as a person must be able to completely understand the information set out
and tasks given. Some of the communication methods would be routines in the workplace on
activities to support with communication skills with other staff and work employees. This
could be taking consistent training sessions for staff and work employees to progress their
communication skills.
Finally, a school could be another work place where procedures can occur. In a school there
are a set of procedure, jobs and assignment each individual staff must have to complete.
Although, in order for these jobs and procedures to done correctly, staff and teachers must
sustain a step by step procedure throughout their time working in a school. These are so that
each staff has a part in providing a firm procedure so that the school is ran in the right
manner.
Disadvantages
A company or workplace can have major concerns if the procedure is not followed correctly.
Procedures in a workplace not being sustained can be because of communication methods
not entirely being understood. Lack of communication can define this, for instance, in a
pharmacy the right sort of communication has to be given. If there is a lack of
communication, then the correct medication may not be given. Also this could be seen in a
school where procedures are not done correctly and therefore it has significances for the
school. This could perhaps be a member of staff or teacher who is not following a specific
task or job that they are given so that’s why this can lead to problems in the department as
work might not be followed up or finished. Difficulties in a procedure taking place can happen
from people not having the complete understanding of a specific task or job. A procedure is
recognised routine which is carried out persistently and if this is not to an satisfactory
standard then companies and workplaces will suffer a fall in the work procedure. The lack of
procedures being carried out can lead to activities that are not organised and also routines
where everything is complex.
