Hey im back with a new unit requested by one of my followers, i posted what i thought was unit 10 in my profile recently, but i noticed that the assignment had nothing to do with what my subscriber asked, that is because when i did the course this unit (using science in the workplace) was my unit 2, and now it is unit 10, therefore the confusion, i labeled the assignments 2 / 10 to prevent any confusion and in case some courses are still using the old scheme. DOCUMENT INFO criterion: D2 questions or tasks: D2 - Analyse why good laboratory design is important for efficiency, effectiveness and safety. i have all assignments from level 2, 3, 3,2 available as well as a bundle of all assignments of the levels, if there is any missing dont doubt on sending me a message, share with you're friends and thanks for visiting me!! (THIS WILL SHOW UP IN THE MARK BOOK AS PLAGIARISM AND YOU WILL GET EXCLUDED OUT THE COURSE) THIS WORK IS MEANT TO BE AS A REFERENCE OR GUIDANCE FOR YOU'RE WORK PLEASE RESPECT MY WORK AND MAKE SURE YOU GIVE ME CREDIT OR PUT IT IN YOUR OWN WORDS Thanks

D2 unit 2 assignment 2

D2 unit 2 assignment 2
D2 - Analyse why good laboratory design is important for efficiency, effectiveness and
safety.
● To have an efficiently running laboratory a good laboratory design is necessary. A laboratory
that is used regularly leads to a cut in the cost as everything stays in working order.
Therefore, nothing needs repairing and new chemicals etc are needed, as everything is still
useable.

● a safe environment can be maintained by switching of electrical appliances and accurately
disposing of waste. The design of a laboratory allows efficiency. Different routines are taken
into account for the maintenance of a laboratory. This includes keeping a: fire extinguisher,
safety fire blanket, fume cupboards and air ventilators. These all provide a route for toxic
gases to escape. This in turn makes sure that toxic gases such as carbon dioxide and carbon
monoxide don't affect people in the laboratory while undertaking experiments. An example of
this would be using a fume cupboard for an experiment that is exothermic such as a
combustion reaction. This entails a large amount of smoke depending on whether it is a
complete combustion reaction or an incomplete combustion reaction. If it is an incomplete
combustion reaction - the products can consist of carbon monoxide, soot or carbon
particulates. All fire safety equipment is kept at a reachable distance and fire doors are
located in certain positions for quick escapes in case anything goes wrong. All exits are easily
accessible and can be opened with no difficulty. Fire alarms are also located next to fire
doors, which enables them to be set off when the fire door is open. This is very helpful as it
warms all other members of staff who are not aware of the hazard.

● Health stations are also available to ensure that accidents and minor injuries are dealt with
as efficiently as possible. This includes an eyewash station that can be used in the case of a
hazardous chemical entering the eyes. It is a quick and efficient way to make sure that the
situation stays in hand till better support comes along. This is one of the many reasons as to
why goggles should be worn in the laboratory. Eyewash stations can help to avoid blindness
or burns depending on the concentration and the type of chemical being used. Other
equipment that I used for the safety of workers is a lab coat, gloves and facemasks. Lab coats
make sure that clothes are not burned by chemicals and protect any exposed skin. The use of
gloves when handling irritants is important, as it is very easy to get in touch with chemicals
that can cause a rash on the skin or even burn. Facemasks help to keep fumes out of the
respiratory system and also to keep away any bacteria that may be tested in the laboratory.
