PRACTICAL INVESTIGATION
Aim: questionnaire to see if males / females perceive themselves to be more
obedient
Experimental hypothesis: significant difference in obedience levels between males +
females
Null hypothesis: no significant difference in obedience levels
IV: gender M / F
DV: obedience rate
Control: 10 mins complete questionnaire with same Qs in same order
Stratified sampling: to be more gender representative
Written questionnaire with open + closed Qs, Likert scale and distractor Qs
Procedure:
1. Approach ppts and ask them if they are willing to take part
2. Explain aims of experiment and an overview of the ethical considerations= the
right to withdraw etc
3. Give ppt questionnaire, answer in silence for 10 mins
4.Debrief the ppts, check for harm + draw results and conclusions
Results:
Median scores for males and females= 5
Mean for males=5.2
Mean for females=5.8
Qualitative data:
Q3) What is your opinion on why we have college rules?
Males: for safety= a positive thing
Females :Important, help to maintain order
Conclusions: no significant difference in obedience between males and females
= accept null hypothesis
