P6 Discuss methods of continuing professional development and training relevant to the career
plan
In this report, I will be explaining and expanding my career portfolio and further demonstrating on
how well I do understand the nature of continuing professional development. I will be explaining the
Continuing Professional Development (CPD), highlighting the professional development and the
appropriate training that I will need in order to achieve my short and medium term career goals.
Finally, I will be reviewing and evaluating how sufficient the methods are for me as an individual and
how they are relevant to my career plan.
Currently, I am studying BTEC Extended Diploma in Business Year 2, and I do not have a current work
due to my course workloads as well as my English exams. From my college course as well as my
Arabic high school, I have learnt a multiple range of skills, from how to manage my time and a
organised my work as a business student, to how to work in a team as well as how to communicate
and socialise myself with other individuals in increase my knowledge and business opportunities. In
addition, my previous work experience in a retail as well as working with my father in his accountant
office helped me a lot as I have learn other important skills and knowledge. When I first work with
other individuals, I have learnt a lot form shadowing staff members with experience and learning
form their knowledge. Although, I might had learnt a lot of skills and increased my knowledge in
business, but I still feel that learning new things every day is an open and unlimited field as that is
what comes with the job.
Alongside with this, I had an opportunity to learn from my mistakes as well as learning new things.
When I first working in my work experience placements I was making a lot of multiple range of
mistakes due to my inexperience, however, this didn’t stop me, as other people helped me to learn
from mistakes and I have been continuously improving my these mistakes. If there was something
that I would have done differently when starting a job, is definitely doing more research on the
business. As this will provide me with a deep insight with more knowledge on how the business
operates, and what the main objectives and aims of it. I do believe that this would make it much
more easier for me at the start of the job. Therefore, understanding the Continuing Professional
Development (CPD), will help me to enchase my business sills and knowledge, this is because the
business world constantly changing every year in many different ways.
Continuing Professional Development (CPD) refers to the process of tracking and documenting the
skills, knowledge and experience that an individual has gain both formally and informally through
not work but other activities, and beyond any initial training. Therefore, it is a record I have
experience, learn and apply. CPD will help me to keep a record of my experience gained and
therefore I can use it to show my future employees or as an individual’s own development and
reflecting on any learned developed skills/knowledge that I had.
In order to secure a successful job in a law firm or becoming a solicitor in the future, I have to build a
good CPD and gain good work experience to help me to impress any firms that is currently looking
for potential employees. This is because the law field is quite competitive industry and very few
people who can secure a good job positions, and therefore a good CPD means successful job.
Therefore I have found a few training and development courses that will help me to secure a good
CPD plan.
