 Variety of Tools out there that can help guide our practice as nurses e.g.:
o ADPU
o SBAR
o Frameworks/schemes – a plan to follow
 Primary and Secondary Surveys can be carried out in a variety of locations:
o ED
o PAU
o Wards
o GP Surgery
 These things become engrained in you as you gain experience (like driving a car or
riding a bike)
o Situational awareness

A Structured Approach
 Things can change quickly especially in paediatric care therefore it is important to
have and follow a structured approach in nursing
 Resuscitation (Immediate)
 Identification of key features and initiation of emergency treatment (Focused)
 Stabilisation  homeostasis and system control. Transfer to definitive care
environment (detailed review)
