2. The midfielders must be able to apply their knowledge and skills in game situations
for example, the midfielders must increase their vision to look for passes.
3. Must be able to pass the ball with stronger foot with one touch.
Smart targets
Specific: All the participants must be able to improve their individual skills. For
example, the midfielder’s job is to pass, so his role might be practice through balls
and long crosses.
Measurable: For a midfielder, the coach can compare him with his skills and
techniques related to his current position. The target for a midfielder might be that he
should make at least 16 through balls out of 20 possible passes.
Achievable: This is when you need to have a target for yourself to achieve in the long
term, for example this may include, and within a time frame the midfielder must be
able to score 1 assist in every 4 games. Having regular training the athlete must be
able to improve his assist ratio, from 1 assist in every 3 games he should be slightly
better and assist 3 goals in every 5 games.
Realistic: This means that the challenge must be demanding but at the same time it
should bearing. For example, this may mean that the athlete must have all the advice,
skills, correct equipment’s and resources to help him with his targets. Example may
include training for 2 hours a day, have recovery days and watch video clips.
Time bound: The goals in which an athlete is required must have duration. For
example, the coach might give the athlete a schedule showing what the skills he must
work on and what the expectations are. The athlete would have a time limit for how
long he can work for before progressing to the next level.
