Unit 16
Task D2
In this assignment I will be accessing the importance of measuring and
managing employee performance at work. For the purpose of this task the
business I will be using is Debenhams.
Why is it important for an organisation to assess employee
performance?
It is important for Debenhams to assess the performance of an employee
because it will help the employers to indicate which staffs are working hard
and not. They can also pick out any improvements needed and inform the
employee on it. In addition the staffs can be appreciated and therefore be
motivated with rewards to keep these individuals to carry on doing their
excellent work. Providing employees with feedback enables managers to
review the achievement of the employee’s goals and whether they have met
these objectives and goals that the manager has set for the employee.
Debenhams will continue to encourage a strong and effective relationship
with Customers and the local community as this is another aim, and as an
objective it will give the employees a responsibility for their own learning
and action from the feedback that they were given.
What could happen in an organisation, which did not measure
performance at all or did not measure it properly?
If the performance of the employee is not measured properly then the
performance of the employee will not progress or improve. This will mean
that employees will put not dedication or effort in their job. This will be a
downfall for Debenhams as the customers may not want to show with them
as they are dissatisfied with the company.
If Debenhams did not measure performance it lowers the productivity of
the staffs and they will not be engaged or focused in their work. This can
give Debenhams a bad reputation as they may fail to provide good
customer service. As a result they will lose out on profit because of
customers will not waste their time in a store that they do not feel
respected at. They will not want to waste their money in company that
cannot satisfy them by giving them the rightful customer service that they
deserve. It can also affect the aims and objectives of Debenhams. By having
goals businesses are able to become more established as they have a goal
that they are trying to reach. Therefore if Debenhams is not measuring
