In this assignment I haie looked at three diferent deadly diseases. The frst one is Malaria. The way in
which malaria is carried is by parasites. Some of the treatments which can be used to treat malaria are,
quinine, artesunate, clindamycin, doxycycline, mefoquine (ariamm®, artemether-
lumefantrine Coartemm®, atoiaquone-proguanil Malaronem® and
One of the strongest medicatons which is used for the deadly strains of malaria, is quinine. This is only
used when none of the medicatons work against that strain of malaria. This type of medicaton is used
not to treat malaria itself but to reduce the symptoms. The way in which quinine works is by releasing
chemicals which tend to inhibit the parasites hemazoin®. This would stop the parasite from destroying
the red blood cells.
Another type of the medicaton is called the artesunate, this is the type of medicaton which is used in
the combinaton of another medicaton. This type of treatment is used against the most resistant type of
malaria. When this treatment is used it reduces the risk of the malaria to become resistant to this type
of treatment.
Clindamycin is the type of treatment which is used in order to preient the spread of malaria. This type
of the medicaton is only used when the doctors/scientst haie no idea if the malaria which the
indiiidual has was caused by the bacterial infecton or because of the parasite. This type of medicaton is
efectie against certain strains of malaria which would reduce the risk of that type of strain to become
resistant to the treatments.
Doxycycline is the type of treatment which is only used against the bacterial strains of malaria. This
means that if the type of malaria which the indiiidual gets has been caused by a parasite, the treatment
is not going to be efectie. This is why in order to treat parasite types of malaria, there are other
treatments which would be efectie against them.
Another type of treatment which could be used in order to treat malaria is called the mefoquine
(ariamm®, the way in which this treatment can only work if the indiiidual consumes the pills for
approximately 2-3 days. This would be useful to preient the indiiiduals who traiel to areas where there
is a huge risk of getng infected with malaria. This would need to be moderated by the doctors because
diferent people would haie diferent impacts from the medicatons.
There is also artemether-lumefantrine Coartemm® which is used in order to decrease the spread of the
disease, it doesn’t necessary treat malaria but it does reduce the symptoms. This type of medicaton is
not the best but where there is a high risk of getng malaria it is best to get any type of treatment
possible. This can help indiiiduals to be more protected against some strains of the malaria which would
reduce the risk of them getng malaria.
Another type of treatment which is called the atoiaquone-proguanil Malaronem®, this type of
medicaton which is used in areas where there is a high risk of getng malaria. When this type of
medicaton is used, there is a risk that it might not be as efectie against some types of the malaria.
There is a risk that a certain strain of malaria can become resistant which would result in the medicaton
no longer being efectie. This is one of the most expensiie medicatons which is used in order to treat
malaria.
There is also a type of treatment which is called chloroquine. This is the type of treatment which tends
