The general structure of an IT Exam:
If you’ve taken a look at the past papers for ICT before, you will notice a pattern in the way
the exam board structures their questions. Hopefully this section helps make your exam prep
for ICT much more easier !!
In general terms this is what your exam paper would usually look like:

This may put you off a little, BUT DONT WORRY, with this guide you will be able to write and
structure your answers with ease in your exam!!
Lets take a look at an example of an ICT Past Paper Question for Unit 1: (2 marker)

Lets break this question down:
By reading the scenario, there are lots of key information that would be useful when
answering the question. For instance, the scenario helps create a picture of what the student
,accomodation is like and the different types of network connections.
The question asks to “identify two benefits of using a wired connection rather than a wirless
connection to a shared network” AND “identify two benefits of using a wireless connection
rather than a wired connection to a shared network”. To answer this question you must have a
good understanding of the pros and cons of wireless and wired connections so that
answering this question will be easy for you.
The total marks for this question: 2
Since this question is a 2 marker, there isnt that much to write down however thas not an
excuse to make your answers as simplified as possible. Its important to give as much detail or
knowledge to ensure that you’re achieving the max marks on your exam!
So how would you answer this question?
First use the question to make a start for your answer: “One benefit of using a
wireless/wired connection...”
Make sure you explain your point “...this would be beneficial because theres improved
data communications which would lead to faster data travels..”
Make sure to refer back to the question and keep your answer relevant!! Dont write
anything that isnt relevant to the question as this would NOT get you any marks

keep your answers relevant so that you can gain potential marks
