Arguably the most important votng bloc that tend to vote Republican are white voters, with their
importance being shown in the fact that they make up 75% of the populatonn In 2012, 59% of whites voted
for Romney, whereas only 39% supported Obaman This is also relevant in congressional electons whereby
62% of white voters ended up votng for the Republican Party in the 2010-midterm electonsn It has been
said that this is due to the alienaton that the Democratc Party caused to many of its votersn This alienaton
was due to sympathy for minority voters, as well as subsequent identicaton with policies that help their
causen This can be seen in many white voters’ hostlity to the Civil Rights Movement in the 60s, which was
led by the Democratsn Whites contnually blame policies like Afrmatve Acton, which has been critcised
for positve discriminaton, and gay rights supportn Furthermore, Southern states usually have higher
numbers of whites and they tend to align with social conservatsm, supportng pro-life and school prayern

whites are seen as a very important votng bloc, it can be said that their signiicant is being reduced due to

tend to believe in state’s rights and smaller governmentn All of these issues are key in the Republican Party
platformn This can be supported by Romney’s success in winning a majority of the male vote 52-45, whilst
making these issues very signiicant in his campaignn Married men in partcular tend to be more
conservatve and will therefore vote Republicann This is due to their traditonal values, family values, which
are highlighted in the Republican campaignn On the issue of gun rights, it is clear that men see this as a key
issue and held Biden as untrustworthy afer he pushed towards greater gun control following massacres in
Newton and Auroran Male voters are seen as a signiicant votng bloc for the Republicans as they are the
most likely group to vote during the mid-term electonsn In comparison, women and ethnic voters only
tend to turnout in large numbers during presidental electon yearsn The male votng bloc can be credited
for playing a part in the recent success in the 2014 mid-term electons where the Republicans gained
control of the Senate whilst winning 9 seatsn

They tend to support the Republican party due to the traditonal moral values that are upheld by socially
conservatve Republicans within the partyn As they are religious Christans, they usually take a pro-life
stance, conflictng with those who make the choice to have an abortonn They supported the uouse
Republicans in their atempt to cut of federal funding for Planned Parenthood (pro-aborton group)n They
also greatly supported Bush Jnr’s executve order to cut of federal funding for Stem Cell Research in 2002n
