Three main types of eating disorders:
- Anorexia nervosa: pursuit of thinness leading to self-starvation (restricting or bin
purge subtypes).
- Bulimia nervosa: cycle of binging with extreme behaviours to prevent weight ga
(purging).
- Binge-eating disorder: regular binging, but doesn't engage in purging behaviours
Wasn’t a disorder on its own in the DSM-4.
Diagnosis (DSM-5, 2013)
Anorexia Nervosa (AN):
- Refusal to keep body weight above minimal healthy level (85% of expected wei
- Pathological fear of weight gain or behaviours that interfere with weight gain.
- Disturbance of body experience (weight/shape). The person refers to themselves
being fat, there is often undue influence of body weight and shape on self evalua
Subtypes:
- Restricting.
- Binge eating/purging subtypes.
