The first Physical Health examination
during pregnancy
Definition:
Physical examination is the process of examining the pregnant woman attends the
antenatal clinic to determine the presence or absence of physical problems.
Purposes:
1. To obtain valid information concerning the health status of the pregnant woman.
2. To create a data base of the pregnant woman response to health for comparison at
subsequent examinations.
3. To determine the nursing care needs of the pregnant woman.
4. To evaluate physiologic outcome of health care and thus client progress.
5. To screen for presence of risk factors.
