Learning Outcome 1 - Understand the purpose of research in
health, social care and childcare
1.1 Areas of research:
There are many areas of interest for research and topics will relate to specific areas.
• Health, i.e.
o treatment – medicines, therapies o health policy – safeguarding,
drug handling, data protection o practices in health care – hygiene,
communication, record keeping
• Social care, i.e.
o interventions – social participation, long-term effectivenesso social care
policy – training, record keeping
o practices in social care – dementia support, communication and
consultation
• Childcare, i.e.
o child development – cognitive development, attachment theory o early years and
childcare policy – curriculum framework (EYFS), safeguarding o practices in early
years and childcare – pre-writing activities and resources, outdoor learning,
