Explain the importance for an
organisation to plan its human
resources needs.
In this assignment I am going to explain the importance of an organisation to plan the
human resources needs in Tesco.
Human resources planning is a process that identifies current and future human resources
needs for an organization to achieve its goals. Human resources planning should serve as a
link between human resources management and the overall strategic plan of an
organization.
Planning human recourses in Tesco is vital as it makes sure that there are enough staff needs
for everyday running of the business. It is also to make sure that they have enough staff to
deal with the change of demand.
Tesco can gain advantage of their competitors if the human resources department can look
ahead and foresee the types of vacancies will they will need to create in order to fill them.
This could be to increase sales or expand to other different parts of the country. Effective
planning can put them in a good position to expand and increase sales quickly and
effectively. Human resources can put procedures in place to staff the arisen needs long
before implementing them.
The human resources department can predict the types of training programmes it will need

remaining competitive and retaining employees who they know can grow with them.
Overlooking industry change is another reason why it’s important for Tesco’s human

Competition within employees is very high as more and more people are qualified but
without a job. This is an advantage for Tesco as it means that when Tesco are recruiting as
most employees who apply will have will present themselves the best way possible in order
to be recognised by their colleagues. Competition with the employees make and motivates
the employees to work extra well because they know if they don’t do that they could be
easily replaced by someone better and who is willing to work hard.
On the other hand, poor human resources planning may cause Tesco to be in chaos. The lack
of poor human resources planning may risk productivity, staffing and employee morale.
Getting the right employees in the right places requires advanced planning. The department
needs to be working together with other departments to analyse what they need. Delaying
or not forecasting staff management might cause a delay in finding the right talent to fill the
