Passives:verbs with two objects
Verbs with two objects have two possible passive structures.
ACTIVE PASSIVE
They gave the winner a prize. The winner was given a prize.
They gave a prize to the winner. A prize was given to the winner.
We choose the structure which ts the best with what comes before and after.
The structure with the person as subject is probably more common.
1.Change the structure (answers on the bottom)
-Nothing was sent to me.
-Papers were brought to us to sign.
-A clock was given to Henry when he retired.
-Stories were read to the children.
-5,000 dollars is owed to me.
-A new job has been o ered to me.
-French is taught to us by Mrs Lee.
-A new car has been lent to me for a week.
-A full explanation was promised to us.
-A lot of lies were told to me by the secretary.
