Read the following scenario and answer questions 1.1 to 1.4.
Thandi is a manager at Sanbonani construction company, which builds and maintains large retail and
manufacturing plants and warehouses. Over the past 6 months Thandi has seen an increase in stress as well
as substance abuse cases amongst construction workers. Thandi decides to meet with the workers who
were identified to get an understanding of the causes related to the stress and substance abuse. During the
first meeting Thandi met with Jane, a metal worker, about an incident which could have resulted in serious
injuries. Jane was shown a recording, where she was about to pass out while hoisting a large metal beam
with a crane. The beam then fell to the ground and fortunately, the other workers were a distance from the
incident and were not injured. Jane is dependent on a schedule 6 pain killer. She told Thandi that about 3
months ago she hurt her back and went to see the doctor who prescribed this medication. Because of the
potency of the tablet, she was only allowed to use the tablet for 14
