Failing transmission oil pump? Why important symptoms - ANSWER-A transmission oil pump is an integral part of the transmission unit. It serves the critical purpose of providing lubrication to the valve body and other essential internal tranny components. It also transports transmission fluid to the tranny cooler, cooling the fluid. (SYMPTOMS NOISE(IMPORTANT Ase 2) One of the common signs of a failing transmission oil pump is a whining noise when driving. . [[A notable sign that it's a failing tranny oil pump is consistent at all speeds.]] Also, there will be metal shavings in the bottom of the transmission crankcase at removal. This means the tranny oil pump is wearing out. A failed tranny oil pump is usually caused: 1. Dirty transmission fluid causing the blockage, 2. Bad front seal causing transmission leaks 3. An extremely clogged transmission filter causing restricted fluid flow. It can also be caused by poor lubrication causing friction, defective transmission crankcase causing leaks, etc. Vehicle sludges at low speed but normal at high speeds it drives normal - ANSWER-torque converter stator is freewheeling Vehicle sludges at high speed but normal at low speeds it drives normal - ANSWER-torque converter stator is seized causing no torque multiplication Digital Multi-Meter(DMM) is set up to measure resistance of a solenoid. The solenoid has a veritable resistor and a solenoid switch integral (always open). The DMM measure 25 Ohms all the time. - ANSWER-Their is a faulty switch stuck closed causing resistance of 25ohms reading all times. Vehicle stall speed is within specification, Transmission fluid is dark in colored. Although when vehicle is accelerated in Neutral, vehicle feels load on engine. hint: Stall speed is within spec. - ANSWER-If the transmission pump is going bad, it can't properly pressurize the transmission fluid. This leads to gears slipping and a lack of power when accelerating. transmission is slipping, it's likely because there's not enough pressure in the system. A failing transmission pump can cause this. Without enough pressure, the gears can't move smoothly, and you'll lose power when you try to accelerate.
