Comparison of Team Effectiveness against Other Teams
Comparison between Enterprise and Employability Team (EE) and Penrhyncoch Football Team.

Team performance

Target setting: Within my EE team we had to make sure that we set out our targets as soon as we
gained all of our team members. For example we would set targets such as completing specific tasks
like posters and websites and have a deadline. However in Football Team we did not set ourselves
any targets at the start of the season due to being unmotivated and also not being organised enough
so instead we had the overall target which was to just avoid relegation.

Monitoring, Review and Performance against targets: Within the EE team we used performance
review. This involved us gathering all together at the scheduled meeting and agreeing on targets that
have been set by the team leader. By doing this and being organised it meant that by having regular
review in-between meetings we could see where we were when it came to achieving targets.
However in the football team we did take this approach but you would tend to speak one on one
with the coach as you wouldn’t say it to the whole team as it would unnerve players and un
motivate them. The reviewing would usually come after a game where the manager would tell us
what the problems were with our performances and set targets for our next game or training
sessions. This would help us to solve these problems as we knew what we needed to do in training
next time.

Support and development of team members: With the EE team we had many moments where we
had scheduled meetings and went through what people needed to do to achieve certain targets. In
these sessions we would find that some people were struggling and the workload was enough. So as
the team leader I would look at what people specialised at and decided who would be the best help
and even sometimes if there was nobody I would choose someone and myself. In my football team it
tended to be the complete opposite our manager wasn’t the best at motivation so a lot of players
did not feel that they were valued so some players had to do that for the manager and take a step
up to support and develop player’s skills and sessions so their motivation could increase.

Team cohesion

Definition of team goals: From the start in the EE team we made our goals clear. For example, if the
goal is to complete a PowerPoint in 3 days, then it’s different from having no deadline. This means
that maybe if the team has a work that has a deadline that is further away they should leave the
work for now and concentrate on the PowerPoint. This is important because in our group our team
members were very clear about their goals so this meant that we concentrated more and were more
motivated. However within the Football Team we had standard goals such as score more than the
opposition but no fixed goals. Our team isn’t the best at attacking which meant that we rarely
scored. This meant that the goal was totally irrelevant and wasn’t suited to the team at all which
meant players started to lose faith and motivation within the team.
