The Equality Care-2010

Equality Act is a legislation that states and became a law of vulnerable and disabled people, emphasizes
on how to treat them. This Act prohibits discrimination, bully, abuse, harassment on the ground and
characteristics protected for society, which covers all the aspects of gender reassignment, age, religion,
Race, ethnicity, disability, belief, sexual orientation, marriage, maternity. This act has been issued to give
people their rights (by giving them authorities and independence in their life and act for them (by
professionals) respecting their challenges and helping them legally rather than make them feel
discriminated and unwanted in any situation for example, a patient is a serious emergency and she/he is
shaking with pain but the healthcare is doing nothing but making them wait and let the patient suffer
because they are busy, so it is the right of the service user to complain and briefly explain to the
respondent or the service complaint center. And to respect and listen to their complaints and respond
patiently will prove them as professional and they should try to resolve and build up the service in a
better way. This is important because the service users should get them entitlement of their complaints.
Valuable places by respecting them and treating them fairly in day-to-day life. Rather than discriminating
against them based on their appearance, health condition, age, gender, religion, race/region, and
ethnicity. This act 2010 gives equal rights and respect to everyone. This is mainly to be used in a wider
society, schools, healthcare services, workplaces, communities. The 9 characteristics of this act have a
significant impact on society as it shows and covers the aspects of all important procedures and policies
in the healthcare setting and for a wider range of communities. This legislation makes it easier for the
service user to understand their rights (because getting treated fairly and accordingly will make life
enjoyable and valuable. And not vulnerable based on their gender, age, religion, race, and ethnicity.

In health and social setting, it is essential for the professionals to ensure that every service user is
protected and safe from discrimination. This can only be done when they are treated equally and fairly,
this means that there should be no discrimination on the grounds of characteristics, stated above. Every

, patient should feel free to access the service, this can only be done when the professionals work to build
a safe environment. For example, an individual on a wheelchair should have the accessibility while
accessing the healthcare department, such as the building structure should be wheelchair friendly, they
should not be looked different individual from the world, they should be made feel valued and equal as
others. People who are available when they (individual on wheelchair) are struggling to open the door
should support them to open the door, with a smile and make them feel good about themselves. This
will show respect towards one another, whereas people are doing this. The professionals have higher
responsibility to conduct and follow the rules in the Act. The individual on wheelchair should not be
denied the care and support. For example, if that individual is Muslim and the professional is of different
religion, they may have conflict on religious points, such as the individual may say that they cannot
continue to do treatment which will affect their religion. Another example is for a pregnant women, who
should not be discriminate, made feel bad for their body after the baby, this is important because this is
a sensitive matter, as the life of the mother and baby should be protected, she should be given the right
to have the facilities to breastfeed. As it is essential for the baby health. They should ensure that she is
healthy enough before leaving for home. Their needs should be met. Another example is that care
homes should not deny health service provision and admission to the care home based on the
characteristics. If they deny the care/treatment based on their race/religion, the professionals can be
disqualified if someone complaints. It is important to have well-trained staff, by this the authority can
ensure that they are well knowledge about the dealing manner in diverse situation, such as code of
professional standards, Equality Act. By this they would be friendly and have non-discriminatory
behavior.

Age- age discrimination is one of the most common characteristics when it comes for a job, for example,
if a person over 35 or 40 wants to join the job, has all the qualifications, work experience but still might
get less work for them to do, thinking that they might not be capable, active than the younger
employees. The staff should not discriminate the individual based on their age. Instead, they should
focus on their needs and your duty of care. For example, an individual age 60 and has dementia, and
wants to get admitted in the care home, should not be treated as she would need to wait till, they treat
an individual who is easy to work with, such as an adult who has physical illness. People get
discriminated anywhere globally cause of there age, for example, they would not let the elders do
certain things, such as go to club, they are expected to be humble, and have a certain behavior that will
be accepted by the society, for example, in Asian countries they are only accepted respectively when
they do certain things that initially the society states as suitable behavior for elders, for example, they
should be praying, they should always be positive and motivate people, they should have good quality of
life such as houses/family/business by the age of 40 and above. Every age is certified to do specific
things that are states as suitable for there ages. For example, from age 4-18, they are expected to study,
respect elders, play sports, find what they want to do in future, have a plan. From age 18-30, they are
expected to have a job, be married, have a house, be independent. From the age 30 and above, they are
expected to have a good quality of life, be settled in life, have children, have grandchildren by the age of
50 and above. These are the society norms, and of people does something diverse for what the
boundaries have been set for, they individual may have get discriminated, unaccepted, bullied. For
example, an individual age 40 and does not have children or is not married, will be taunted all the time
for not being able to get married at the right time. The positive of this can be that the individual may
prefer to stay that way, such as wants to be independent and enjoy life and would decide that if anyone
can fit into their lifestyle choices, but the negative impact of this is the society do not certainly accept
