Unit 1 P2 Boaz Spaan

- Describe the different
stakeholders who influence the
purpose of two contrasting businesses

What are stakeholders?

Stakeholders are people who directly or indirectly affect an organization’s actions. It is very
important for companies to recognize the importance of stakeholders, since they are a big resource
of companies. Nowadays there are different levels of power and interests to companies.
Stakeholders are the foundation that keeps companies alive, literally. The goal of most companies is
profit, So without stakeholders, profit would more than likely never happen. Stakeholders are people
such as customers, suppliers, employees, and managers, and if we would not care about these
people, the business would basically not survive.

Stakeholders IKEA

IKEA gains knowledge through communicating with their stakeholders and partners. By cooperating
with companies, trade unions and organizations, they learn, share experiences, and accomplish more
than what they would have done by themselves.

BWI is a Global Union Federation free trade unions, which protects more than 12 million members in
350 trade unions around the world in the building, wood, and forestry industries. IKEA and BWI have
since 1998, established a long-term co-operation and an agreement based on the IKEA code of
conduct, which is the IKEA way of purchasing home furnishing products. These two companies meet
continuously to exchange experiences and to discuss working conditions and social responsibility,
which are two very important factors in organizations. IKEA is also cooperating with BSR, which is a
global, non-profit organization that helps member companies to achieve success while respecting
people, communities, ethical values, and the environment. BSR is a company that provides
information, tools, training and advisory services to make corporate social responsibility a significant
factor of business operations and strategies. IKEA is a member of BSR and has an IKEA representative
on the board. These two organizations are two great examples of IKEA’s stakeholders. These
organizations will help IKEA to improve important parts of the company and to grow in a positive
manner.
