1. Begripsbepaling

Om welke ziekte gaat het? Nederlandse naam, Latijnse naam, eventuele andere benamingen (in de
volksmond).

 Het gaat om borstkanker. Latijnse naam is mammacarcinoom.



2. Verspreiding(epidemiologie)

Hoe vaak komt de ziekte voor? Bij welke groepen mensen komt de ziekte voor? In welke gebieden
komt de ziekte voor?

 1 op de 8 vrouwen krijgt in haar leven borstkanker, 5-10% is jonger dan 40 jaar. 1 op de 20
vrouwen overlijdt aan borstkanker en het is de meest voorkomende doodoorzaak bij
vrouwen. In Nederland krijgen jaarlijks 15.000 mensen borstkanker en hiervan zijn ruim 120
personen een man. In de periode 2013-2016 doen de meeste sterfgevallen zich voor in het
noordoosten en het westen
 Aantal nieuwe gevallen is hoog vergeleken met andere landen in Europa. Sommige
risicofactoren van borstkanker komen in Nederland veel voor.
