Now let’s get started with the main course, which is 9 hours and 45 minutes, and everything you need for
IELTS is here.

What is IELTS?
IELTS stands for International English Language Testing System. It is a proficiency test that checks your
English language skills. Non-native speakers, meaning people who are living in a country where English i
s not spoken as the primary language or the first language, are required to take this test. For example, if y
ou want to go to Australia to study or work, you have to write IELTS to show your proficiency.

The test was created by Cambridge University, and 80% of the English used in IELTS has a British accen
t. Therefore, it is recommended to watch British accent movies to get acquainted with the accent.

Types and Categories of IELTS
IDP and British Council: Cambridge University created the test, and they gave the responsibility to IDP an
d British Council to conduct the test in various countries. Both are the same, and there is no difference bet
ween them.
General Training and Academic: If you are planning to work abroad, go for General Training. For any kind
of course, go for Academic. If you take the wrong test, you will waste a lot of money, and the score will b
e invalid.
Paper and Online: It is recommended to go for Paper and Pencil as it is easier to read and write on paper
than a screen.
Scoring in IELTS
In IELTS, there are no marks or points. You are scored from one to nine, where nine is the highest and on
e is the lowest. The score is called a band. There is no score of zero, which means you did not appear for
the exam. You will get a score between one and nine, depending on your situation or requirement. If you
score nine or eight, that is excellent. However, there are four modules in IELTS: listening, reading, writing,
and speaking. If you scored less in any of these modules, less compared to the requirement, you would n
ot qualify.

Understanding the IELTS Scoring System
When taking the IELTS exam, it is important to understand the scoring system. The requirements for diffe
rent companies or institutions may vary, but it is generally required to achieve a score of at least eight ban
ds in listening, seven in reading, seven in writing, and seven in speaking. The scores for each module and
overall score are important.

It is also important to understand the difference between bands and zephyr. Zephyr stands for the Comm
on European Framework as a reference for languages, which tests the levels of language. Bands are cre
ated from one to nine and correspond to the levels of zephyr. For example, a score of 8.5 to 9 is consider
ed C2 while above that is C1. Listening and reading have 40 questions each, with one point given for eac
h correct answer. The score for writing and speaking is based on four criteria, with vocabulary and fluency
being examples.

Choosing the Right Study Material
It is recommended to avoid online materials as they are not connected to Cambridge and may not provide
