Biology 6.1
Just like animals plants are alive.it Lous like plants ate a nothing all, butt they show all the
characteristics of life.

Plants can't move, they are rooted to their I spot, so they need to survive. They do that by
competing for space and producing new offspring

To do that plants have 5 basic structures
• leaves: used to produce good for the plant
• stem: held the plant upright. Food and water is transported through the stem
• roots: anchor the plant in the soil
• flowers: used for reproductions
• fruits: used to make sure seeds will be transported to different locations

In plants we can identify 5 different structures, they sort of have
noses and ears. Those are not on a specific location

A plant can sense also of things:
• molecules
• light
• sounds

Plants don't have specific organs but every part is sensitive

Plants can be called modular. This means that almost every part
has the possibility to grow a new unit, just like the plant itself

Like other organisms, plants have life cycles:
1. Plants grows out of the seed, rood first
2. The root grows bigger and stem starts to grow out of the soil
3. First leaves starts to grow
4. Young plant grows and develops more leaves and roots
5. The plant grows the flower, fruit and eventually new seeds

Different plants have different life cycles:
• annual plants: life cycle is explained above
• biennial plants: life cycle takes 2 years. First year the plant grows leaves and roots → During
winter leaves die and daring spring plant grows new leaves and flowers. At the end of year
seeds develop
• perennial plants: make seeds year after year and live long
