ACTIVITY PLAN

Student’s Name: Calvin Baitup

Activity Title: Treasure Hunting Date: 25/09/20

Aim of the Activity:

To plan an activity that supports positive outcomes for a child or young person’s development.

Objectives:

At the end of the activity the children should be able to problem solve more effectively, be

able to work better as a group and be better at communicating in uncomfortable situations like

with someone who they do not usually communicate with. The children should also be able to

match the definitions of words they are learning in class to the correct word. The children

should be able to develop socially by communicating with children and be able to build new

friendships according to the foundation phase (Welsh Government 2015).

Start Time: 10:40 Finish Time: 11:00

Description of the setting/location where the activity will take place:

The activity will take place in the inside play room for the year 1 and year 2. It is an open

space made up of two classrooms which has been turned into one big area.

Resources/Preparation:

For this activity I will need to prepare clues for the children which will be solvable but

provide a bit of a challenge for them. A prize to motivate the children to want to do the

, treasure hunt and want to be good at the treasure hunt. I will need to find hiding spots for the

clues in the play room. To prepare for this for this treasure hunt I needed to ensure that the

teacher in the class had a time slot for me to be able to perform this activity.

To prepare for this activity I need to retrieve the set of words that the class is being taught the

definitions of off the teacher of the class so that I can write the words on cards to place around

the play room and so that I can write the definitions down as clues for the children. The next

preparation I would need to do is to place the words around the playroom with definitions of

other words as clues on the back of them.

Health & Safety/Risk Assessment:

Before the activity takes place, a comprehensive risk assessment will be carried out to assess

any factors of the playroom that could be hazardous to anyone involved in the activity, who it

would put at risk during the activity and how and what I could do to minimise or erase the

risk. I will be following the health and safety policies and procedures of the setting (BBC

2020).

Description of how you plan to implement the activity:

I will allow the teacher in the class to pair children up as partners with a child who they do not

usually work with. There are twenty children in the class so there will be ten teams of two. I

will explain the rules of the treasure hunt to the children using age-appropriate language and

double check with each team that they know what to do by asking them to explain the rules to

me. After that I will then provide all the pairs with the first clue and allow them twenty

minutes to work together to use the definitions of the words, they have been learning to find

the word and the next clue. All the pairs will go at the same time as the play room is big

enough for them all to navigate around without there being any issues. Also, each pair will
