EYP11 Task Help Sheet

This unit is to be completed as an assignment on a word document. You should aim to include at least 1 valid
reference in each criteria. There are some criteria which may, in part, be cross referenced to work completed
in EYP5, however, there will still be some additional work that you will need to add to meet the requirements
of EYP11. Remember, this unit is all about supporting babies and children with SEND needs and therefore your
responses should demonstrate that you understand the extra care and needs children with SEND have as
opposed to those children who are following normative patterns of development.

1.1 Describe statutory guidance in relation to the care and education of children with SEND

To meet this criteria you will need to identify and describe some relevant guidance in relation to working
with SEND children. This will include reference to the EYFS and the SEND Code of Practice (2015). You must
also mention the requirement of EHC plans.

The SEND code of practise outlines the recommendations you should be aware of while assisting children and
teenagers with disabilities and special education needs. The complete statutory guideline consists of a mention
of the applicable laws. There must be at least 12 sections in every EHC plan, but how there organised is up to
the authority. Your opinions, hobbies, and goals, as well as those of your child or other young person. The
unique educational requirements of your child or young person. Health requirements because of their SEN or a
disability.

1.2 Describe the roles and responsibilities of other agencies and professionals that work with and support
your setting, both statutory and non-statutory, when supporting children with SEND

To meet this criteria you must identify and explain the roles of at least 4 other agencies that you will work
with in relation to SEND. (You can use part of your work for EYP1 A.C. 5.3 for this) you may use some of the
following;

 Physiotherapist
 SALT
 Education psychologist
 Play therapist
 Health visitor
 Social worker

2.1 Describe how children learn and the expected pattern of babies and children’s development from birth to
seven years. Areas of development to include:

·cognitive

·speech, language, and communication

·physical

·emotional

·social

, ·brain development

·literacy and numeracy included in eyp 5.

This criteria can be cross referenced in part to EYP5 A.C. 1.1. However, to meet it fully you will still need to do
the following:

 Explain the different ways that children learn;
o Through active learning- active learning can be facilitated through engaging in discussions,
practise, reviews, problem-solving, and group projects, In the early years industry.

o Through meaningful activities- they can learn about themselves and the world around them
via engaging activities that are enjoyable and meaningful, they will gain the abilities required
to become more self-assured and resilient so they can handle any issues or challenges they
encounter.

o Through using previous knowledge- prior knowledge is built upon to create new learning.
The more we know about how children think and the more we encourage them to use their
past knowledge, the more likely it is that they will learn effectively.

o Through practice- practice aims to make sure that every child benefit as much as possible
from their EYFS experiences. This straightforward result can only be attained when adults
collaborate to get to know the children in order to support their play, development, and
learning.

o Through independence and decision making- all children are given the opportunity to weigh
all their options before selecting the best one, it enables them to develop into competent
decision makers. Other crucial traits such as self-discipline, patient, attention, cooperation,
and self-trust are developed.

o Through play and exploration- children and young people who play have better cognitive,
physical, social, and emotional health. Children learn about the world and about themselves
via play. They also pick up qualities like confidence that they need for relationships, job, and
study.

 Explain that children with SEND needs will not follow the expected patterns of development as
other children.

In addition, if the proper support is not put in place, children with learning difficulties have a considerably
higher likelihood of acquiring mental health concerns. Disability may also affect a personability to learn, as well
as what they can do and how much they can participate in activities and that is why they will not follow
expected patterns of development as other children.
