dehumanises her which makes the punishment seem more cruel and
ruthless

compares her nipples to ‘amber beads’ + her ribs to ‘frail rigging’ and says
she is a ‘barked sapling’

reflects the speakers’ frustration at the harsh punishment inflicted on the
woman
