Hello there! The adventure has finally begun.... For the next six months, I can be
found in a place other than my beloved hometown the Netherlands. You may be
wondering where. Well, on an island in the Caribbean Sea. The friendly island of Sint
Maarten!
For my Tourism Management studies, I have started an internship at the Front Office
of the Princess Heights Hotel from the beginning of February until the end of August
2022.
Before I tell you all about the hotel, let me briefly introduce myself. My name is Ilse,
and I am currently 20 years old. I live in a small town called Soesterberg, located in
the middle of the Netherlands. Here I live with my parents, sister, and twin brother. I
love travelling, being together with family and friends and being creative. Currently, I
am in the second year of my bachelor’s degree (Tourism Management).
I have realised that there are still so many things to discover and learn. That is why I
wanted to go on this adventure. And I thought, if you are going away anyway, you
might as well go far away.
This assessment consists of three chapters. In chapter one, you can find a
description of my personality including my strengths and weaknesses, my meaningful
experiences on my internship tasks and my defined learning goals. Chapter two
contains a business analysis related to the professional environment where I am
doing my internship, The Princess Heights Hotel. In chapter three I describe
important and relevant trends and developments in the hospitality industry.
