Experiment: Titration pH curve Colourimetry
Lab report 1 - Carrying out a titration of sodium carbonate solution (base) and
hydrochloric acid (acid)
Introduction:
I am a newly appointed technical assistant at a large chemical plant,
Chemcalequip. As part of my induction period and to progress in my role, I
have to demonstrate skills in a range of practical procedures and techniques.
Part of my role is to ensure equipment is calibrated and equipment and
chemicals are safety checked. A key part of my job will be making and testing
standard solutions using titration.
Aim of the experiment:
To reach the end point of the titration experiment (faintly coloured light pink
solution in the flask).
Hypothesis:
Changing the volume of Na2CO3 in the conical flask will change the colour of
the solution.
, Before colour change (Bright pink)
After colour change (Very, very light pink and difficult to see but perfect
nonetheless)
Equipment list:
For titration
Glass beaker =250ml
Burette = 25ml
Clamp
, Clamp stand
Volumetric flask
Small funnel
Pipette & pipette filler
White tile
Conical flask
HCL (acid) & Na2CO3 (base)
Phenolphthalein indicator
Distilled water
For standard solution:
Electric balance, Na2C03, distilled water, volumetric flask, small beaker (50-100
ml)
