For this practical you will need:
● A Bunsen burner;
● Tripod;
● Heatproof mat;
● Beaker;
● Fixed volume of metal oxide or carbonate;
● Acid;
● Filter funnel;
● Filtration paper;
● Paper towel;
● Evaporating basin;
● Glass rod;
M e t h o d
1. Pour a fixed volume of acid into your beaker and heat
this on the bunsen burner until almost boiling.
2. Put a small amount of the metal powder into your
beaker and stir.
3. The solution should have now turned blue. Keep adding
the metal until there is some unreacted metal left at the
bottom of the beaker. We say that now the metal is in
excess.
