# public health notes

introduction health and health promotion

issues in public health

inequalities in health

The book issues in public health discuss many things in section one of chapter 4 inequalities in
health such as health inequalities and inequalities as a working definition, the chapter goes
further into highlighting the importance of improving the health of the poor and reducing health
equality as a central goal of much international or organisation including the World Bank and the
World Health Organisation and serval national government. health inequalities have an impact
on both the rich and the poor nations however it has a greater impact on the poor due to the
different resources and factors that go into improving the health of the nation such as life
expectancy which is affected by health inequalities because globally life expectancy is pretty
high but in some other countries life expectancy is pretty low. Research into inequalities in
health has been happening for a long time which started in the UK and even though there was
relatively little research and few explicit policies in many other parts of Europe. who were
influenced by different reasons, for example the UK was experiencing the Industrial Revolution
which brought advancements but also brought many health issues such as inequalities between
the rich and poor and what access to health resources they can get.

The chapter also looks at different theories of health inequalities and how these theories have
different reasons for why health equality happens. the chapter then goes onto emerging
potential mechanisms to explain health inequalities by looking at two different themes that
explain why happen inequalities happen such as health issues happen due to the accumulation
of experiences throughout life or it happens during early childhood and before birth, the chapter
does offer potential actions to tackle health inequalities such as strengthening individuals,
strengthening communities and improving essentials resources and services communities have
access to.

section 2: Major determinants of health

Tobacco Is still a global health priority

Tobacco is still a health concern for the government and for many health professionals to
control and prevent the issues from becoming a bigger problem in the future which is why it's
causing major public health disasters. Many factors contribute to people smoking such as health
inequalities or seen as a social lifestyle people do however people’s health are not just affected
by smoking it directly but can be affected indirectly by being exposed.

****Office for Health Improvement and Disparities****

****NHS entitlements: migrant health guide****

the news article outlines advice and guidance to healthcare practitioners on the health needs of
migrant patients, the article further goes on to highlight what healthcare practitioners should do
when treating migrant patients. However, the news article does give guidance and information
to migrants coming to the Uk on what healthcare services they are entitled to and what they
should do when accessing healthcare services in the UK. The article does advise on Covid-
testing, treatments and vaccination, but also advises on changes to health due to BREXIT.

Uk health security agency

The news story I read was ****Second vaccine doses to be offered to those at highest risk from
monkeypox. which gave an overview of what the UK health security agency would do to reduce
the number of monkeypox cases in higher people by giving the second dose of vaccination to
higher-risk people.****

****The difference between health improvement and disparities compared to the UK health
security agency is that it would mainly focus on health protection whereas the former would
focus on improving the health of the nation and region booking at health inequalities and
interventions.****

I think both agencies will improve the health of UK residents because both agencies look to
better the health of the population by developing interventions and advice to give to the public to
improve their health.

homework for week three

****COVID-19 contact tracing apps: UK public perceptions****

this article discusses a critical public health perspective that advocates for ‘genuine participation
in public health interventions and emphasises the need to take citizen’s knowledge seriously
into account during public health decision-making (Green, 2006)
. To do this, the paper reports the findings of an in-depth UK interview study which explored
public views on the possibility of using the public health intervention, a COVID-19 contact
tracing application (app), at the time the UK government announced their decision to develop
such a technology to help mitigate the spread of the coronavirus.

the public’s health perception of covid is poor due to not having a proper understanding of the
situation and not being willing to understand the importance of using the tract and trace app due
to several reasons.
