Your task This assignment consists of written report where you introduce your chosen area to the lecturer according to the themes supplied and to classify the resources for tourism in your chosen area. It is crucial that you work through Lessons 0-4 before you attempt to complete the assignment. What is the aim? The aim of this assignment is to introduce your chosen area and enable you to do a tourism resource analysis. Part 1: Introduction of your chosen area In the first component of this assignment, you will introduce the area you chose for your GGH2606 activities to the lecturer. The chosen area must be either a city, town, region or district with a variety of both man-made and natural resources for tourism. You cannot work with just one attraction such as a national park, monument or museum. The introduction of the area needs to be made according to the following six themes: 1. The location of the area (both absolute and relative location) 2. The environment of the area (natural and/or human-made/altered) 3. Tourist attractions found here or potential attractions 4. Identification of the role players in the tourism industry and local community involvement 5. The possible impacts of tourism in the area 6. The existing infrastructure for tourism in the area This must be done by writing a short report focusing on each of the themes individually. You can use graphical aids to strengthen your discussion of the chosen area. The entire introduction of the chosen area should not exceed 1000 words. This part of Assignment 01 counts 60 marks (10 marks per theme discussed) and if the chosen area is appropriate an additional 5 marks is awarded. Part 2: Tourism resource classification and analysis For the second part of the report, you need to consult Lesson 4, Section 4.4.1 Activity: Marketing your chosen area. Create two separate tables in which you will classify the tourism resources found in your chosen area. Do not use the combined table as per the activity in Section 4.4.1. In the first table, you will use Clawson & Knetsch’s classification system to classify the tourism resources found in your chosen area according to the three categories of this classification system. (12) In the second table, you will use Swarbrooke’s classification system to classify the tourism resources found in your chosen area according to the four categories of his classification system. (16) After completing the two tables, you need to answer the following questions: 1) When you look at both tables and the two most dominant categories of each classification system in terms of the resources of your chosen area, do they correspond? (4) 2) Which type of resources is the most prominent in your area and what type of tourism activity would be associated with the most dominant tourism resource type in your chosen area? (3)
