QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH REPORT
THE HEALTH AND WELLBEING OF STUDENTS OF THE BASIC SCIENCES
Abstract
The aim is to investigate the health and wellbeing of students’ studying the basic sciences. It
seems that students studying the basic sciences could have anxiety issues, as an effect of
any underlying pressures. We will also compare the differences between those studying
public earning institutions vs those studying in private learning institutions. This usually
depends on the scale/ status of the learning institution. We will investigate the state of the
persons wellbeing, in terms of psychological and physiological entities. Boss (1979).
We will also investigate the sociological status of the students, which includes whether their
trait anxiety can be analysed to establish any significant findings. We will also investigate
resilience in a positive way to contrast anxiety. Also, basic sciences can include, carrying out
medical studies.
It will be interesting to establish the significance of students’ health and wellbeing, while
they carry out their studies in the basic sciences. We will also investigate whether age or
gender has any influence on the idea of identifying possible health/ wellbeing needs for
basic sciences students. We will also carry the any research associated with the interest of
student health and wellbeing and compare it with this existing study. This will help to affirm
any theories reported prior to this experimental analysis and whether there are any
additional findings. Ihde (2012).
Introduction
It seems that the health and wellbeing of students probably needs to be monitored in detail.
This would especially be within psychological research. It is good to create an insight into
how students are doing while carrying out their studies. It would not always be possible
through just eyeballing the student. The student could be having underlying issues that can
only be uncovered through experimentation, testing, as well as through observation.

, There are students who could find it difficult to express any trauma or anxiety they are
experiencing, while carrying out their studies. It is known that student must be available for
study 100% until they have completed it. However, it is easily forgotten that student’s
health and wellbeing is important. Merleau-Ponty (1962).
It is possible that students will perform better, when their health and wellbeing has been
accounted for. Usually, educational institutions have a healthcare professional, who can
provide treatment or diagnose any health issues students might be having. The healthcare
professional can also take the form of a psychological wellbeing practitioner or educational
psychologist.
These professionals can provide the necessary care for students, if they are feeling unwell
during their studies. It is important that educational institutions communicate and inform
students that there is a healthcare service available. This experiment will prove that it is
important to take care of the health and wellbeing of students. This is especially when their
study involves basic sciences. It is likely that those studying a medical element of basic
sciences will not focus so much on their own health. It is not necessarily an issue with
carrying out the study. But it could be an issue that should be addressed, as a collaboration
of maintaining and observing the wellbeing of students studying the basic sciences. My
interpretation of the basic sciences means that it could be health and social care, biology,
physics, chemistry and similar subjects. An advanced form of science could be
Pharmacology, Biomedical science/ engineering and so on. American Psychiatric
Association. (2013).
A relevant organisation that ensures the health of the population is the World Health
Organisation (WHO). The ensure that healthcare services are available and are likely to have
made provisions so that healthcare professionals are available to students. Those WHO are
a large independent organisation that will establish ongoing needs to be fulfilled within
healthcare. The WHO will ensure that there are provisions for psychologists, who want to
carry out assessments/ experiments to find out how people are doing, especially within
learning institutions. It is possible that healthcare is more readily available for students’,
studying in private educational establishments. This is because they are likely to have more
funding to provide private healthcare, which could be more valuable, being that the
professionals might have a higher standard of training. Aho (2018).
Hypothesis
H1: Health and wellbeing could decrease when studying basic science when not monitored.
H0: Health and wellbeing issues is not affected because basic science students a caring for
others.
