Exemplar: pregnancy/antepartum Pregnancy Antepartum/Prenatal (chapter 14) Ante before Partum childbirth → → Begins: ova childbirth cleavage implantation → → Ends: delivery of fetus Last: 40 weeks (38-42 weeks) Trimesters: 40 weeks/ 3periods (13 weeks each) Verifying pregnancy: ● Serum & urine test ● Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) production detected as early as 7-8 days after conception ● Home test 1 → st voided morning specimens ● Anticonvulsants, diuretics, tranquilizers= false-positive or false-negative pregnancy results Embryo: implantation – 8 weeks Fetus: 8 weeks – until birth Embryonic development: most vulnerable period (quiz?) ● Week 3- 8 weeks →, most vulnerable period for embryo to be exposed to diseases, teratogens or maternal condition Routine prenatal visits: Low risk/ uncomplicated ● Every 4 weeks ● 28-36 2weekss → ● After 36 weeks weekly
