,P3: Explain how to calculate elapsed flying times, giving accurate examples
Elapsed flying time is calculated to find any flight schedule. We first change the departure timing and
the arrival timing to GMT time then finding out how many hours they are away from the GMT time
whether they are ahead of the GMT time( UTC + ) or behind the GMT ( UTC - ).
For example
Flight from LHR to BOM (LONDON HEATHROW TO – MUMBAI)
LHR
Flight departure timing 12 OCT-2020
Scheduled 09:10 BST actual 09:16 BST
Terminal 2, Gate B36
BOM
Flight arrival times 12 Oct-2020
Scheduled 22:45 IST ESTIMATED 22:55 IST
Terminal 2 Gate D20
Flight time
Total flight time 9h50m
, (Changing 22:55 to GMT, Mumbai is 5hours and 30mins ahead from London Heathrow airport and
(Changing 09:16 to GMT, London is 1hour ahead from the GMT)
LHR> GMT +1 09:16 > 10:16 BOM> GMT +5:30 22:55 > 17:25
We need to calculate the time from 10:16 – 17:25 which is 7h: 9mins in between
Elapsed time: 7h9min
