Introduction

Businesses such as British Airways need to make sure they are able to manage their resources,
physical and technological. This needs to be done to ensure British Airways is using its resources
efficiently and effectively to produce maximum output in the success of the business. It is essential
to make sure that British Airways considers all resources when functioning day to day so that there is
full customer satisfaction and all needs and expectations are achieved by both customer and British
Airways.

British Airways is the flag carrier airline of the United Kingdom and the largest airline in the United
Kingdom based on fleet size. When measured by passengers carried, it is second-largest in United
Kingdom (behind easyJet). The airline is based in Waterside near its main hub at London Heathrow
Airport.

Buildings and Facilities

All businesses will need to have locations from where they can operate. The main building of British
Airways is the place where their offices and staff are located. This is the location where the staff of
British Airways carries out tasks for the business but also monitors and improves the services that
they offer to customers. In contrary, the headquarters for British Airways is located in
Harmondsworth, London which is known for the international head office. Customers with special
requirements are able to make full use of the British Airways building for example; wheelchair users
or those with a pushchair certain facilities have been put in place for users with difficulties or may be
disabled require ramps for wheelchair access or wider automatic doors allowing access. Facilities for
customers and staff are things such as men & women toilets which accommodate baby changing
rooms. British Airways considers many aspects when designing the building and creating all the
different facilities within the building to make it easily accessible.

Plant and Machinery

Being such a large and complex organisation, at British Airways they have to deal with waste from a
number of different areas. They aim to reduce the amount of waste that has to go to landfill by
recycling as much as they possibly can and processing non-recyclable waste by other methods. At
their main bases of Heathrow and Gatwick, they recycle almost 50 per cent of their waste. They are
also working closely with suppliers to reduce the amount of waste at source, particularly by looking
at the volume of packaging and order quantities. British Airways also reuse as many materials as
