Women in the USA have decreased rate of longterm breastfeeding according to the Breastfeeding report card published by the CDC in 2018. It is recommended for infants for be exclusively breastfed for 6 months and to continue breastfeeding for 1 year at least by major Health Organizations. In North Carolina, 84.9% of infants have been breastfed at some point, however at 6 months the rate in North Carolina is 58.8% and at 1 year the rate is 33.2%. Breastfeeding infants improves the health of both mom and baby by preventing illnesses for infant, helps decrease childhood obesity, and improves moms health in many ways including decreased rates of many forms of cancer. The rate of exclusive breastfeeding in North Carolina at 6 months of age was only 27%. This means that a large percentage of those who breastfeed drops dramatically from birth to 6 months.
