I submitted this essay for my narrative writing question and received almost full marks in it (off by one mark) which allowed me to bag an A* in this subject at IGCSE.

I shot up awakened by what I thought was the deafening sound of my alarm

clock, but to my horror, it was not. The room was eerily silent as heat and sweat

dripped and licked my sunburned face. Surely, I was perplexed and agitated.

“Where am I?” I anxiously murmured to myself under my icy cold breath. I had

never been in a situation like this before. Even the black, precious always

chirping, hummingbirds were silent. I knew this was just the beginning.

“Charlotte?” I whispered as my eyes scanned the deck. I could sense fear in my

voice. My heart thudded against my chest as I repeated myself over and over.

None responded. I massaged my temples, listening to the howl of the wind. T

houghts spiralled out of control. Just then, from far accross the deck I could

see a shadow approach me.

“Charlotte? Is that you?” I whispered a sigh of relief. An unsettling breeze blew

her uncombed hair. Through her tattered t-shirt, the cold stabbed sharply at

her skin like being pricked by thousands of thorns. The second I saw Charlotte

I knew the cold wouldn't bother anymore. Nothing would matter anymore. I

gathered myself and stumbled my way to Charlotte, as tears of joy streamed

down my cheek.

“Go away! FAR! NOW!” Charlotte screamed. Her murky black eyes transitioned

into fierce red. Small spikes emerged from her knuckles. A half-laugh, half-sob

escaped from her lips. I was shocked, disquieted and petrified as I enunciated

fear “Charlotte, it's me, your sister! Talk to me!”.
