EMBRIOLOGY
-Vestigeal organ with unknown function
-Development from the 5-th week
-Midgut rotation - right iliac fossa position (position anomaly) – in extreme – situs
inversus
-Noncoalescence of the ascendant colon - abnormal mobility of the cecum and appendix
Anatomy
-Cylindrical aspect – L: 7-12 cm, D: 4-8 mm
-Position (taenia intersection) - (inside – Gerlach valve)
-Vasc: appendicular a. (rr SMA); duble artery (50%)
-Veins! ileocolice veins! MSV! portal vein
Lymphatic: ileocecal, pericecal, sup., duodeno-pancreatic nodes
Inervation: vegetative (simpatics si parasimpatică)

Histology: 4 strata like all bowel
Gut associated lymphoid tissue (GALT) – Limphocytes non-T maturation and
immunoglobulins producing process
On average 200 pholicles in teens and young adults(fall over time)
Fibrous tissue is replacing it.
